This comes after months of self fighting!
It’s been a while since I wanted to write. To produce something. To free myself from the miserable routine. Each time I opened my laptop to write.. I went mad.. Even when I went back to my notepad.. It didn’t work..
Until that Friday evening, when I went back home after a hectic day – week.. Made a turkish coffee.. Took a bit of black chocolate.. Gave a tender kiss to the mother and installed myself in my little corner to read a magazine..
I have to mention that I’m a musicoholic person.. like the engine.. I work.. Produce.. Move.. With music.
Tonight’s playlist is 100 % Tunisian, signed by the Prince Anouar Brahem.
Anouar Brahem – Le conte de l’incroyable amour
Scrolling down in this old blog, the words started to come up.. And the images to appear clearly.. My addiction to The Medina could be the key to reform my misunderstanding with my inner.
Back to one month ago..
A lovely friend wanted to show me a place.. To share with me and other friends; one of those places we glue the ticket “… The place to be “. We hardly arranged an appointment.. A brunch on a sunny Saturday!
I woke up with a predictable laziness.. It was the first weekend I wanted badly to spend at home; but I had a commitment to honour (as usual).
I went to the described venue : “Dar Ben Gacem” in El Pacha Street in The Medina.
I already knew where it was located, but I’ve never been inside.. This “old” House looks like many others in the Medina of Tunis; you hear about, but you can occasionally go into.
Hurry up.. Everyone is there..
Knocked on the door.. I had goose flesh.. How is it? How the meetup will be?
One of the employees opened the big Brown door.. I went in and started my journey.
Everything was in its place.. Very organised from the beginning.. Dark lighted reception, with some traditional staff exposed in showcases.
I went up through the ceramic steps.. A hand painted ceramic; wonderfully made in an Andalusian style.
Up to the rooftop. I can rarely see the Medina streets from above; in a Saturday morning, it was awesome.
Everyone was there ; we enjoyed talking about our coming projects.. What was on the loop.. We shared some deliciousness.. And the most important thing we laughed (one of the rare priceless moments I laughed from the buttom of my heart).
Spontaneous meetup, in which we all chilled out (chillaxing moments).
When we came up to the departure moment; my friend suggested to the House owner to show us around.
Yeah.. let’s discover it..
The House was well renewed.. None can imagine that it was abondoned few years ago.
The owner collected some traditional stuff and exposed them in showcases.. In the meantime, she mixed a bit of her trips’ souvenirs to rejuvenate it.
It’s simply authentic.
Old houses in the Medina are usually designed with a coloured patio; ceramic from the ground up to the roof.. It contains also a miniature garden; flowers, cloves, jasmin tree…
The whole components make the difference between Tunisian “old” Houses and European ones (modern Tunisian, and old colonial ones). While we keep our beautiful gardens hidden from any eye; the others show off their beauty to any passenger.
There are some conserved parts in the house; that give you hope, like the upper room. It’s decorated with a typical Tunisian style: “Naksh Hdida” and some sculpted prayers all around the roof in blue and white.. Bright prayers.
In every corner of the House, you find an original gadget, a traditional furniture.. You can feel the spirit of the old days.. And taste the peaceful time spent in there.
All the traditional components are there; from the basement: “El Mejen” (where they conserve water), the patio “West Eddar” decorated with the colourful ceramic, the upper floor “El Ali”, the rations room “Beit El Moona”, the decorated roof “Naksh Hdida” and the shelter “El Sedda”.
The meetup ended with that amazingly amazing photo tour around the house.
I will definitely be back to resource.
Back to origins.. Makes me happy; the happiest person on this earth.. Sigh
